I am a single parent and now my children have left home for university. Suddenly, after the years of hectic and often frenzied activity I am left alone. I have so much time on my hands. During the day, its easy – I have something or the other to do. And then as the evening falls I return home. The house that was once so full of noise, action and laughter is silent. In a sense I know I am not alone. He is with all the time. Walking by my side, guiding me and keeping me safe. One evening service at the St. George's Cathedral, the pastor spoke about the pebbles that Joshua asked his people to pick up from the Jordon. Drawing a parallel to our lives today, he said, that along life's way we too have to pick up pebbles. These are the pebbles that remind us of God's blessings. Sometimes, we forget what God has given us. We concentrate on what we have asked for and not received. Today, I remember those words. In the silence of my home, I thank God for the wonderful years I was able to spend with my sons and my extended family and remember that whatever my life is today, it is something that God has willed.
