Kelvin Lim Growing up, he was involved in local church worship ministries which led him to co-found Joshua Race Ministry (JRM). The vision of JRM was to inspire the young generation to rise up and build a Joshua generation that will take the city for God. Kel helmed it as their main keyboardist. The band pioneered the local Christian band worship scene and produced a total of three albums: “Unity” (1992), “Heavenbound” (1996) and “Experiment” (1999), which was recorded under the international record label Sony. This led them to be nominated in the local Grammy's equivalent, the A.I.M. awards in 2000. However, due to different commitments, the band members went their separate ways in 2001. In the year 2000, Kel co-founded 1a.m. (One Accord Ministry) which is the creative arm of a church called Eaglepoint Covenant Fellowship (ECF). ECF is part of a church movement called Every Nation and one of its callings is to reach the campus. Their famous Every Nation statement is “Win the Campus, Win the World.” In 2005, 1a.m. released their first album called “Revelation” and in 2007 they released their second album called “Sold Out.” 1a.m.'s vision is “Worship Brings Change” and we believe that God will bring a transformation that will ignite a revolution bringing salvation to the world. They also want to fulfill the church vision by using creative arts from music, drama, and dance to reach the campus generation. Kel is also the founder for a creative campus movement in ECF which is called “Creative Life” and it’s goal is to draw different talents from all colleges and bringing them to Christ through creative ways. One of Creative Life programs they run is called “Track of Talents.” Here are his reponses to the 5Questions:
1. What does worship mean to you? Worship to me is how much worth do I “value” God to be? I wish I can find a better word than “value” because God cannot be valued; His love for us is too priceless. So right now that’s the best word I can find. All of us will die for something, it may be a job where you wil compromise to get to the top, it may be fame at whatever it cost even to sell our body or materialism that could be a sports car, a big mansion, a plane and the list never ends. IN FACT THAT IS WHAT WE WORSHIP. We become what we Worship; therefore, worship to me is giving all my worth to something or someone.
If I truly worship God, I must worship Him in spirit & in truth ( John 4:24). I must daily check my life and ask myself will I die for Him? Is He worth everything to the point if He asked me to give up everything, would I? Is He really the Lord of my life? Worship Brings Change. That is my life message. I’ve seen how God transforms my life when I worship Him. Transformation here means God opens my spiritual eyes to see my sins, my wrong thoughts, or perceptions bringing repentance to Him thus making my life reflects His love to others. It increases my faith and decreases all the unanswered questions I have. It increases my love for the lost and makes me want to change even more to be like Jesus.
Therefore, worship is vertical; it begins from the inside out focusing on Christ and the horizontal effect happens that brings change. Like what Matthew 6:33 says “ seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all things shall be added unto you.”
I think my answer would be the same as question No 1. It is how much worth God is to me will be what causes me to worship Him. I’m not perfect and growing and learning everyday but one major thing how I check my worship towards God is my lifestyle. These are a few questions I would ask myself: i. How do I treat God? ii. Do I have love for the lost or the ones that are hard to love? iii. Do I serve others or I only want to serve myself? iv. When the music or musicians are unskilled and play really bad, am I able to worship God? v. When the music genre is not my musical taste, am I able to worship God? vi. Through the changes people can see in me that infect them to also want to change.
5. What is your favorite song and why? Honestly, I love a lot of songs and one of my all time favorite is “when the music fades” but for this particular season it’s a song which I felt the Holy Spirit impress in my heart to write which is called “Every Nation Shouts Your Praise." In my country, there are many citizens giving up their citizenship to go to “greener” pastures. Every person I meet who migrates only speaks of how beautiful, how happy, and relieved that they left Malaysia. All I hear from them are their negative remarks of their own country; there is never anything good and that is why they left. Worst of all they are neither serving in any of the churches there or some are not even going to churches since they left their own country. I often ask this question, God can never make a mistake by bringing you to whatever nation you were born in. If everyone leaves, for example, my country Malaysia especially the Chinese and Indians, who is then going to reach this nation for Jesus? Many believers forget that God has a purpose why he birthed us in that country. We often complain about what is not good about our country but we forget that God is sovereign and HE can transform our nation. We need to stir our hearts and begin to pray for our nation that God will bring revival to our streets, towns, cities, state and our country. Let us stand together united in ONE ACCORD and declare "Every Nation Shouts God’s Praise." For more info please visit www.1am.com.my Trackback(0)
