Name: Jacques Lilavois
Gender: Male
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Age: 31
I lead worship at Newheart Foursquare in Altadena, CA (in Los Angeles County), play guitar, bass, sing and a little drums. Me and my wife Kristi are enjoying our first baby girl, Selah Valentine Lilavois, born on 2-2-08!
My main callings in ministry are leading worship, raising up and
equiping other worship leaders and worship team members, and writing
worship songs. I recently recorded my first CD called "Let My Love Be
Louder" which is a collection of 10 songs I've written out of my life
of worship to God.
1. What does worship mean to you?
Worship
means to be a pleasing, living sacrifice to God as it says in Romans
12:1. We can express worship to God in many ways. ONE way is through
music. I believe God created music as a powerful means to express our
life of worship to Him, but a song is nothing without a life of
obedience to back it up. If a worship CD is playing in an empty room,
who is worshiping? No one. In the same way, we can recite songs we
know and yet be no more pleasing to God than a lifeless CD player
unless our very lives are a pure sacrifice to God.
2. What do you think happens when you worship?
When we worship in spirit and truth, we connect with God. We join into the eternal worship that is happening in the heavenly realm. Isaiah saw a vision of heaven with the angels worshiping God, saying Holy, Holy, Holy... hundreds and hundreds of years later the disciple John, writing the book of revelation also saw a vision of heaven, and saw the angels and saints worshiping God saying Holy, Holy, Holy... worship is eternal and it happens in spirit. Once we're saved we can join in the eternal worship that is always happening. We connect with God in spirit, because He is spirit, and we must worship Him in spirit.
3. What causes you to worship?
Mostly obedience!! Obedience is BETTER than sacrifice. If you think about it, SIN is the opposite of obedience, and sin (disobedience) separates us from God. Likewise, obedience draws us closer to God. When we are obedient in every aspect of our life, we become a living sacrifice and our very life becomes a pleasing offering of worship to God. My desire to be a pleasing, living sacrifice to God causes me to be obedient, and with obedience comes communion with God, interaction with God, favor from God. Knowing I am a pleasing offering to God causes me to express that worship in many ways, including worship through song.
4. How is worship displayed in your life?
Through obedience, sacrifice, faithfulness and dedication to God. This includes striving to be holy, repenting when I sin, asking for forgiveness, how I treat others, the list goes on and on. It's also displayed (I like to say "expressed") through songs that come out of life of worship to God. I personally never sit down to "write" a worship song. I simply live a life of worship and out of that life of worship, through the good and the bad, songs are sung.
5. What is your favorite song and why?
My favorite song is whichever one I happen to be singing to God. Sometimes it's a well known song, sometimes it's a song I'm writing, sometimes it's a song I sing to Him in a moment of connection with Him that may never be sung again. A song is a powerful way to express our worship to God, so I choose the one that allows me to connect with Him and please Him.
