Name: Fred McKinnon
Gender: Male
Location: Saint Simons Island, GA (USA)
I'm a man who wears many hats ... too many hats, for sure, and wrestles daily with which hats belong, and which ones don't.
While I enjoy the artistic side of being a musician, worship leader,
songwriter, and producer, I have this entrepreneurial side that keeps
me busy with e-biz, blogging, and worship-related resources. I'm the Worship Director for St. Simons Community Church , and the
Founder of worship-related sites such as TheWorshipCommunity.Com ,
HighestPraise.Com , and my own blog at FredMcKinnon .Com. I am blessed
to have a wonderful wife and four beautiful kids.
1. What does worship mean to you?
Worship used to mean music. It used to mean songs. Now, more than ever, worship is a lifestyle. Worship is a reflection of praise, adoration, and gratitude. Worship is a place where I can surrender, give, and receive all at the same time. Worship means abandoning my motives, my agenda, and my strategies and laying them down for the greatness of God. Worship is something I can do here on earth that is part of heaven. It's a way I can taste of heavenly life and God's Kingdom, right here on our planet.
2. What do you think happens when you worship?
I think God Almighty is honored and blessed. I think our hearts melt and become more like God intended. I think demons and principalities tremble. I think angels rejoice. I think God scoots to the edge of His royal throne, and taps Jesus' arm on his right side and says "listen, watch, they are worshiping". I think heaven comes down to earth.
3. What causes you to worship?
I believe we are created worship. Everyone is created to worship, Christian or non-Christian. It's part of who we are. There is an inner urge in us to worship SOMETHING ... SOMEONE. We are all worshiping ... we just aren't all worshiping God. Sometimes a beautiful song or melody causes me to worship. The beauty of nature often inspires me to worship. Watching my children, loving my wife, and partaking of the goodness of God causes me to worship. God's goodness and kindness poured out on me often invoke a heart that wants to worship and give back to God a small portion of what He's blessed me with.
4. How is worship displayed in your life?
Again, in the past I would just say music. Worship is displayed by my music, my worship leading, my singing, and my songwriting. But now, as a father of 4 children ... I hope that "worship" is displayed in how I life my life, how I love my wife, and how i parent my children. I hope worship is displayed in how I give financially to God's Kingdom, and how I treat others around me. Because this can glorify Christ, or it cannot. My prayer is that my life would glorify Christ, and this would be worship to Him. My "spiritual act of worship" is living a life that is transformed by God, and not conformed to the patterns of our fallen world.
5. What is your favorite song and why?
My answer to this question could change before you've published these five questions. Right now, I'd have to stick with "How He Loves Us" as recorded by Kim Walker (my favorite version of the song) on a Jesus Culture album. I love this song because it's prophetic, it's strong, and it invokes people to worship. It carries a revelation of God's love and never ceases to stir people to engage with God and His Presence.
