Name: Alastair Vance
Gender: Male
Location: Durham, NC
Age: 33
Alastair moved to North Carolina from Ireland in 2007 with his family and became involved with New Horizon Church in Durham as part-time worship leader; he works as a software developer. He is married to Liz and together they have three wonderful children.
Currently, he is focusing on developing as a worship leader and
aligning himself with what God has planned while improving my
song-writing skills.
1. What does worship mean to you?
Worship for me is intimate access to God my creator. Worship must be a
lifestyle - my life as a living sacrifice to God. Music is just one
expression of worship. It's all about surrender. Jesus - take all of
me!!
2. What do you think happens when you worship?
Jesus is glorified. His name is lifted high. He communes with me. He reveals a little of Himself. He restores my soul! Worship is personal.
3. What causes you to worship?
I want to be the type of worshiper that God is looking for (Luke 4:23). I also don't want some stone crying out in my stead (Luke 19:40). Worship is two-way - I want to get as close to God as possible. I want to dwell in His house all the days of my life (Psalm 27:4).
4. How is worship displayed in your life?
As a worship leader and blogger, the topic of worship is a big part of my life. I love to lead people into the realm of worship. I think churches need to do more to teach people how to praise and worship God. As the modern church, a lot of us associated worship with the 3-4 songs we sing on Sunday. Even the words we do sing are not properly considered or expressed from the heart. This is one of the reasons I started the blog; however, the main reason was to keep ME focused.
5. What is your favorite song and why?
At the moment, my favorite worship song is "God Of This City," written by BlueTree and covered by Chris Tomlin on the "Hello Love" album. It's an amazing song - a cry of expectation of what God is going to do.
